The first of a series of promos for P.O.S’s album Never Better which comes out on Feb. 3, 2009 on Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Rhymesayers posted the trailer I cut for Slug’s Sad Clown Bad Dub 4 DVD reissue.

From Rhymesayers.com

Repackaged, remastered and uglier than ever, the critically acclaimed third official studio release from Atmosphere, “God Loves Ugly”, is back after being out of print for over a year. The “God Loves Ugly” re-issue also features a FREE bonus DVD. Originally released as the limited Sad Clown Bad Dub 4 (The Godlovesugly Release Parties) DVD, it features 2 hours of live performance footage, backstage shenanigans, several special guest appearances and music videos for “Godlovesugly”, “Summersong” and “Say Shh”. This previously out of print DVD has been repackaged in a custom sleeve that comes inserted in the re-issue of God Loves Ugly for the first time ever. Check out the trailer below and be sure to pre-order your copy now from www.FifthElementOnline.com today!

The India Exhibit video I shot and edited for Olson’s client, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts.

The video is featured here on MIA’s website and includes an on-going discussion about the exhibit.

I last mentioned this project in October when we shot these interviews at the grand opening of the exhibit (very cool event, by the way).

We shot interviews on a DVX-100 and edited in Final Cut and After Effects. Audio mixed by Luke Harper at Audio Altimeter.  You might see this airing in local movie theaters, too. I know, I know, I hate those pre-preview advertisements, too. But give me a break!

Lipstick Camera + Israeli Arm = Awesome RC Car Hoodmount Action.
We spent all week shooting videos for POS’ upcoming album ‘Never Better.’ Almost everything was shot on a RED One camera system, but for this set-up an HVX200 was used as the recording deck. I was the stunt driver. Click the photo to see more.

More Doomtree… Dessa asked me if I’d help her promote her book “Spiral Bound,” available from Doomtree Press early January. Advanced copies will be on sale at the Blowout this Saturday night at First Ave (tickets still available).

Watch Dessa and two friends donate 10” of their hair to Locks of Love. Always glad to help a good cause.

Oh, and shout out to Head to Toe Salon. Great cuts, even better people.

Made this to announce the first ever Doomtree DVD to be released at the Blowout IV (December 6, 2008 at First Avenue). The beat is a Lazerbeak original (included on the False Hopes CD with the DVD). Beak and I took about 250 photos around Minneapolis with the DVD floating in the air. Yes, in addition to making sick 1s and 2s, Lazerbeak is a master of levitation.

Included on the DVD is some other work of mine, including the Drumsticks music video, As Seen on Doomtree, Game Over music video, and some live breakdancing and performance footage from Blowout 2. The best part of the DVD, however, will surely be Brady Kiernan’s original documentary about the crew and Blowout 2.

» Winner: The Local Ad Show

Celebrated some big wins this weekend. My former agency (Colle+McVoy) took home the second most wins overall and I was named on 9 of them, including a silver for Candle Cannon. The highlight was seeing this Free Arts video play for a capacity crowd at First Avenue. I made this last year to pass the time while 90% of our creative department left for Christmas vacation — it was never really intended for the public. Bronze ain’t bad!

» NEW reel/portfolio launched!

If you are here, then you probably already know, but this totally deserves a post. Andrew Wetzel (see AChangeIsGonnaCome) did an incredible job designing and developing my new reel over the past month. Seriously, this thing is amazing and I hope my work is halfway good enough to deserve to be on such a killer site.

Thank you Andrew.

Editing related injury

I never thought it was possible, but today I injured myself while editing. My friend (and often producer) Brady Kiernan came over to put some final edits to his Doomtree multi-cam live show. We were hungry, and like any good editor I provided some snacks. Everything was going really well and we were enjoying the gourmet salt-and-pepper potato chips until, upon my own lazy attempt at munching, a small fragment of a chip flung itself into my left eye. The pain was extreme and I immediately thought I was desitned to spend a few days winking like George Costanza. But, I stayed calm and a thorough rinsing with cold tap water dissolved the chip crumb and we finished the video. I was a little embarassed at my inability to safely eat potato chips, but Brady’s amusement ultimately led to this post

Editors and web developers…be careful out there.

At the Minneapolis Institute of Arts

Last week I shot some interviews at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts during the opening of a new exhibit: India: Public Places/Private Spaces. The exhibit runs until January 28, 2009 and definitely worth seeing. It is the most avant-garde exhibit in recent memory (maybe ever) for the MIA. Some compelling video installations, interactive work and digital photography provide a rarely-seen perspective into contemporary Indian culture.

The concept is to create an on-going archive of real conversations about art at MIA. These conversations could be seen in TV spots, on the web, or (even better) in-museum installations. it would be pretty cool to have something on display at the museum, even if is not actual art. Or is it?

I worked as a Production Assistant with a small guerrila-style crew from Late Night with Conan O’Brien at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN. Robert Smigel heckled Republicans and protestors, I got rejected and detained by secret service for a few yours and operated a second camera during our interview with Ralph Nader (See below).

I just finished editing this music video for the song Drumsticks from Doomtree’s first official crew record (available tomorrow!).
