Rhymesayers put a lot into the packaging of Atmosphere’s upcoming album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. Slug and I made this stop-motion video to showcase the fun of his storybook limited special edition CD (featuring a DVD of my concert film Sad Clown Bad Dub 13).
Sad Clown Bad Dub 13 is a full length concert film featuring Atmosphere performing two sold out shows at First Avenue (MPLS) in 2007. You can get a copy on DVD included in the limited edition version of When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh*t Gold (in stores April 22, 2008)!
I’m shooting and editing a web-series called ‘Paint It Gold’ to engage fans and promote Atmosphere’s upcoming album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold (Rhymesayers Entertainment) set to be released on April 22, 2008. Slug and Ant host a talk-show in Slug’s basement and ask fans to send questions to be answered in upcoming weekly episodes. As good as their music is, these guys are damn funny, too.
From Dustin Black (co-creator of Human Flipbook) comes another glorious experiment in stop-motion advertising. This one is a first-ever stop motion story told on burnt toast. That’s right, he used a blow torch (and some airbrushing for re-touches) to burn a 220-frame animation recounting the history of Hormel’s American iconic meat product, SPAM®. It’s called Toastvertising and is aimed at promoting Dustin’s wonderful coffee-table book, The Book of SPAM®
Like Human Flipbook before it, this deserved it’s own behind-the-scenes companion video. Buy Dustin and co-author Dan Armstrong’s The Book of SPAM® for a loved one.
“Directed” and edited a music video for Mac Lethal’s debut album on Rhymesayers Entertainment this week. He’s on tour so we came up with a concept that didn’t involve his physical presence. I use the term directed lightly because it’s 100% public domain footage from the Prelinger Archives. I’ve always been skeptical of mash-up videos, but I think we made something special.
Most of the material was originally intended to warn teenagers in the 50s about the dangers of alcohol and drugs. In this context, however, nothing looks more fun than drinking 50-year-old Pabst and diving in a pool.
Art Director Dustin Black and writer John Neerland dreamed up this concept for the first-ever human flipbook. 150 T-shirts with iron-on stills were used to make a low-budget, but high reward :30 spot for Minneapolis based subshop Erbert & Gerbert’s. I edited this behind the scenes video.
Bets were on as to how many hits we would make in the first week. Well, let’s just say we doubled the highest estimate. This thing is unstoppable now. Blog-seeding at it’s best. CNN, VH1 Best Week Ever…what next?
